   2007 Elderhostel The successful Lake Erie Islands Historical Society Elderhostel program began in May, 2000. Our programs give an inside view of island life while learning about our rich history and fascinating ecology. Experience all the islands have to offer.

May 3- May 8, 2009: Birding in the Lake Erie Corridor

 

   Over 250 species pass through the islands on their way North and our experienced guides will lead the group to the best vantage points to view their journey. Lectures and bird banding by renowned experts. Field trips to Canada’s Point Pelee Provincial Park and MaGee Marsh-Crane Creek will certainly add sightings to your life list.

Sept. 13-Sept.18, 2008: The Islands of Lake ErieElderhostel aboard the OSU Stone Lab research boat.

 

   An in-depth look at the multi-faceted history of the Lake Erie Islands. Learn about the Battle of Lake Erie, the wine making industry and the geology of the “Saratoga of the West.” Do Lake Erie research at the Ohio State University’s Stone Lab on Gibraltar Island. Visit the South Bass and Marblehead Lighthouses. Lectures by local experts.
